Health – Preparing For Life Beyond Covid-19

Since the shutdown in March of the entire world due to the pandemic that originated from Wuhan China, it should be apparent to most of you that Covid-19 is contagious through the air that you and I breathe.

Covid-19 is airborne!

In this article, I will not discuss the rationale why the medical communities and the governance authorities around the world did not and will never officially announce the main mechanism for contracting Covid-19 is breathing the infected air – until a vaccine is discovered with high efficacy.

Let start by breaking the population into two groups by age –

  1. New born to 65
  2. Sixty-five and beyond

Cross section these two populations with the “Pre-Existing Medical Condition” resulted in the illustration below!

Base on your age and you if fall into quadrant 1, congratulation, you have been doing good in taking care of yourself – just modified your activities in accordance to the recommendations below.

If you are in quadrant 2 & 3, you must make changes to your lifestyles and follow the simple recommendations below.

If you are in quadrant 4, it is CRITICAL that you must follow the recommendations as outlined.

There are 2 words hence 2 recommendations in the preparation for life beyond Covid-19.

Space and Cardio!

Space – as I said at the beginning of the article, the main mechanism for contracting Covid-19 is through the air you and I are breathing.

Unless a vaccine with high efficacy is developed in the next few years, businesses around the world will have to modify their existing spatial structural to meet the safety regulations – especially in the West.

Until then, any enclosed space that you are sharing with a stranger will put you at a high risk of contracting the virus – gym, restaurants & bars, public transportations (airplanes), crowded stadiums, theaters and the hospitals (yes, HOSPITALS).

If you are in the group 4 based on your age, the safest space is your home. The second safe space is your car. Beyond the space of your home and your car, take the CDC 6 feet guideline and time 3 (18 feet) to another stranger – unless you have proper protective gears (face masks and eyes protections).

Cardio – is undoubtedly the best exercise to prepare everyone for the threat of Covid-19.

According the Harvard Health Education “Aerobic exercise can’t increase lung function, but it can help improve lung capacity — the amount of oxygen you take in with each breath”.

Before we go into the discussion of the vast options of Cardio Exercises, it is critical that you adhere to the recommendation from the science community with regard to the target heart rate when executing your favorite workout routine.

The guideline below is extracted from the American Heart Association –

Once you have the “Target HR” in accordance with your age, the next executed step is “WALK”.

Start by Walking Today!
Note – DO NOT forget the “Space” requirement especially if you are in group 4.

In the good old days, an average person can walk 2 miles in an hour on a pave road. An average jogger can finish 2 miles in 30 minutes and a trained athletic easily cross the 2 miles marker within 15 minutes.

If you never walk or jog 2 miles, start with 15 minutes interval and work your way up to 1 hour base on your capability – don’t forget to pay attention to the “Target HR” recommendation.

Where can you safely walk and jog?

You can walk and jog inside your home!

You can walk and jog around the perimeter of your home!

You can walk and jog around your subdivision!

You can walk and jog in a park nearby!

I am going to finish this article with other Cardio Exercise options if walking and jogging is not your cup of tea – safe and appropriate in accordance with the Covid-19 era.
