Person 1 wakes up every morning with a conscious intention to introduce a utility to the external environment where he/she is residing.
Person 2 wakes up every morning with an unconscious act to let the external environment knows that he/she is alive.
What do the two persons described above have in common?
They are both expressing their one-of-a-kind uniqueness among the population of 7.7 billion and counting as of April 2019 – I was here and this is my signature!
Why do people have this deep desire of expressing the “Me Me and Me”?
Simple – each and every one of us is built with an internal clock that ticks down since day one of birth. We are designed to expire on a mystery day in the future – it could be today on this very second.
Because each person is subject to a future “Death”, the mixture of conscious and unconscious behaviors are acted over the limited time span – mostly unconscious.
Look, look I am a billionaire!
Look, look I am the club XXX President!
Look, look I am the partner of the XXX Law Firm!
Look, look I can drain this entire bottle of tequila down my throat in five second!
Look, look I am doing wheelie on my motorcycle at 100 miles per hour on a busy highway!
Look, look I can pick my nose with my big toe!
All these expressions are unconsciously executed and the level of severity or accomplishment, depending on the type of the act, is determined by the formulation of genes and the environments in the prior years.
Procreation is the one gift that nature has given to all living thing to cheat death. Humans are the only species that relentlessly search for additional means to extend the essence of “Self” – the most popular path has been via the legacy, the namesake.
All inventions and creativity beyond the basic ability to build simple tools, as seen in primates, are resulted from the drive to showcase the uniqueness encompassed with each and every single human beings ever grace the surface of the earth – it may take several generations for the undiscovered potential to surface.
Within the realm of the human species domain, being useful or creative and MOST importantly being recognize is the evolutionary path, as a species, we have chosen to embark since the dawn of civilization.
The creativity drive started out as a mean to survive. Once the primordial needs are fulfill to the procreation marker, the remaining efforts are concentrated toward the legacy and namesake – the marble statue in resemblance of “Me”.
We are the only species on the planet earth that possesses the additional layer of promoting the essence of “Me” beyond the act of procreation.
The relentless drive to express the essence of “Self” is clearly demonstrated in the last 10 to 15 years with the explosion in the ubiquitous online social platforms – technologies finally met the Pandora box of “Self” expression.
Unfortunately, the majority of “Self” expressions “look, look at me…” fell short of the owner’s expectation – in some extreme cases, it turned out deadly.
There are overwhelmingly more instances of “Look, look I can drain this entire bottle of tequila down my throat in five second!” than “Look, look I am the XXX Club President!”
Both “Self” expressions shared the rudimentary origin of drive. Yet, the latter has much more utility to the agent of the act, his/her family and the society at large – whereas the first signified a significant level of self-destruction due to low utility of the act.
All in all, it is the showcases of the uniqueness in all human potential that collectively built the modern civilization of the 21st century – remarkably, the first image of the cosmic and mysterious black hole 55 million light-years away was captured in April of 2019.
As of the 21st century and globally, we have made great progress moving toward meritocracy – moving away from the steep hierarchical structure where the very few ruled the lives of the mass.
Specifically in the first quarter of the 21st century, we have arrived at the mile marker where for the first time in the human species evolution there is enough resources and time (in term of longevity) and most crucially the freedom – to live a life in accord to the individual uniqueness.
Yet, the mass has not capitalized on the enormous opportunity.
In the field of psychology, learned helpless theory is best to explain why the mass has not embraced the new world order.
The remnant of the absolute ruling hierarchies in the past is still lingering in the psychology of the population. The majority of the 7.7 billion of the world population continues to have the dependency mindset that the big, powerful and smarter entity out there other than the individual is making life decision for him/her – I am too small and my little effort will not make any difference.
Ironically, although the mass carried the learned helplessness mindset, the inner drive to express the “Me” continues to exert its clout – commanding the individual to acts from stupidity to horrendous.
Below is the spectrum of shades that measure the quality of self-expression for the entire population of the human species.
When the individualistic expression falls on the right side of the range, the mindset of the agent who carried out the act is in the state of despondency – longing for the external environment to acknowledge the present of “Me”.
In the last 30 years, China was successfully moved its massive population out of poverty. Furthermore, this enormous mass of humanity is not subjugated to the extreme hierarchical rulers of the past, albeit many activities are still under the watchful eyes of the central government.
All in all, the Chinese citizens are enjoying the unprecedented new found wealth and freedom unthinkable a little over last century.
With the exceptions in the isolated war-tormenting areas in the middle east and the South Africa continent, the entire world is enjoying the prosperity and individual freedom more than ever since the end of World War II.
It is an absolute must that we continue on this path of progress for the entire of humanity – with sincerity.
The ultimate mission of the human species should be set to harness the all “Self” unique and hidden potential.
World leadership needs to have global initiatives to promote educations and assistances to encourage people to participate in the process of decision making – breaking, minimizing the remnant of slavery buried deep in the population mindset.
The need to express the “Self” uniqueness is part of the Self-Complexity Odyssey introduced in “Relationship 101 – The Odyssey Begins”.
Very few will find it at the beginning of the journey. The rest of the population will have the opportunity placed at strategic mile markers along the life-long expedition.
Only to be discovered by the free minds.
